Lily James Cast as Cinderella

At the beginning of the month, three actresses screen tested for the title role  in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Cinderella.

Today, one of those actresses has landed the part. Lily James will play Cinderella!

Lily James Downton Abbey

The young actress, best known for her role as Lady Rose McClare on Downton Abbey, was up against Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), and Margot Robbie for the role.

It is unclear what directs Branagh plans to take the adaptation. Fairy Tale movies have been going one of two routes of late: large-scale fantastical epics a la Alice in Wonderland and Oz: The Great and Powerful, or gritty, dark thrillers a la Snow White and the Huntsman and Jack the Giant Slayer.

Filming is set to begin this fall.

Star Wars Episode VII: John Williams Likely to Score

With so much still up in the air about Star Wars Episode VII, some of the broader pieces are beginning to fall into place.

Obviously, we know that J.J. Abrams is directing the film, with Michael Arndt writing the screenplay. It is seeming likely that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill will reprise their roles.

But now, it looks as though J.J. Abrams is hoping John Williams will return to score the film.

Williams has previously stated that he wants to return to the franchise, having scored all six of the previous films.

Then at a press conference in Berlin, Abrams (Star Trek: Into Darkness) recently said, “For Star Wars, it’s very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was.”

A new poster for Star Trek Into Darkness has dropped! In it, the Enterprise is under siege by a much larger ship. Take a look:

Fantastic Four Reboot: Allison Williams Could Star

We’ve known for a while that a Fantastic Four Reboot was in the works, thought very little has been set in stone regarding the project.

Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) is producing the reboot, with Seth Grahame-Smith and Jeremy Slater doing passes on the script.

Now, it is being reported that Girls star Allison Williams is on the shortlist to join the cast.

Williams is likely being considered for the role of Invisible Woman, which belonged to Jessica Alba in the 2005 film.

The Fantastic Four currently has a March 6, 2015 release date.

Vampire Academy Adds Olga Kurylenko

A coming-of-age fantasy romance about vampires in high school, based on a best-selling series of Young Adult novels? That sounds like a fresh, new idea.

Despite the glaring similarities to The Twilight Saga, a Vampire Academy adaptation is moving forward. Olga Kurylenko has just signed on to play head mistress Kirova.

Olga Kurylenko Oblivion Premiere

The story takes place in a hidden universe of vampires and half-vampires called dhampirs. Rose Hathaway is a young dhampir, who attends an academy that teaches them how to take their place in the world.

Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures) is signed on to play Rose, with Lucy Fry and Danila Kozlovski also starring.
