Deliver Us From Evil Exclusive: Eric Bana on How Playing Real Person Is "Awkward"

In Deliver Us From Evil, Eric Bana portrays a real life NYPD detective, Ralph Sarchie, as the film chronicles his battle solving crimes based on demonic possession.

Having the real Ralph Sarchie on the set, Bana admitted, was a priceless asset to bringing the Deliver Us From Evil story to life — particularly for him as he plays him!

Check out this Deliver Us From Evil clip for more on the real Sarchie, and you can see also that it could be quite weird to play someone who is real! “Initially it can be quite awkward because, well, it would be awkward meeting an actor who’s playing an interpretation of you,” Bana said.

“But, I really enjoyed being around Ralph and quite often there is something about someone’s presence that’s hard to read on paper. I got a sense of that. There’s a real strength. There’s a real swagger there that affected the end character.”

And given that what Sarchie experiences in his battle of demons versus God’s will on Earth, we wondered if it mattered to Bana whether he even believed in the supernatural in terms of capturing this story?

“As an actor, you have to remain open,” he said. “For me, it was about being open, about learning more about the subject matter.”

Bana also chimed in on his stellar co-star, Edgar Ramirez, as well as what he thinks about Deliver Us From Evil director Scott Derrickson getting the big gig as the director of Marvel’s Doctor Strange!

Check out the Deliver Us From Evil trailer and be sure to witness the flick when it lands in theaters July 2.

Star Wars Episode VII: Kevin Smith Sheds Nerd Tears After Set Visit

Filmmaker Kevin Smith is somewhat of a geek policeman. Smith is held in such high regard that he is invited to sets across the globe to give his stamp of approval and also shown things that we dream of seeing — like, he was the first to see the Ben Affleck batsuit

Smith has taken to his Instagram account and posted the photo below after a visit to the London set of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII

And yes, those are tears. And we know that those are tears of joy, given what he wrote as a caption. “The force is WITH this movie.”

Take Smith’s opinion with a grain of salt, but since we don’t know much about what is being filmed — other than Harrison Ford breaking his leg! — we are seriously encouraged by Smith’s emotional response. And from the sounds of it, he did not want to leave.

Now, if the Star Wars: Episode VII cast can just make the leap to San Diego for Comic-Con, we can all shed tears of joy!

Han Solo Must Have a Huge Part

We’ve heard that Harrison Ford’s Han Solo has an enormous part in the seventh Star Wars movie. Ford would not have signed on to J.J. Abrams’ film if that was not the case.

Jerry Bruckheimer Exclusive: Beverly Hills Cop 4 and Top Gun 2 Updates

When we caught up with Deliver Us From Evil producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently, we had to take a minute to ask him about two upcoming projects of his that are making headlines — Beverly Hills Cop 4 and Top Gun 2

From the news that Beverly Hills Cop 4 will feature the return of Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley to Michigan, his comments in our exclusive video interview add fuel to that fire.

So, what did he say about seeing Tom Cruise back as Maverick in the upcoming Top Gun 2

Check it out in the video interview below!

While we wait for those huge projects, don’t miss his Deliver Us From Evil in theaters July 2, and be sure to check out some of his classics, like when you watch Armageddon online. And see how things got started for Foley and watch Beverly Hills Cop online

21 Most Patriotic Movies: America, F-ck Yeah!

Hollywood can wave the red, white and blue as good as anyone.

Some of our greatest movies are also our most patriotic. As we celebrate the Fourth of July, Movie Fanatic thought it was a good time to look back through the archives and discover those films that make us supremely proud to be Americans. And we found 21 that make us wrap ourselves in the flag.

Watch Forrest Gump online and that Tom Hanks-starring Oscar winner is largely the story of America in the last half of the last century.

And then there’s what you see when you watch Saving Private Ryan online — the Greatest Generation, as they were called, making the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that freedom and democracy continue. As tyranny reared its head across the globe, America sent its citizens overseas to ensure that the great democracy experiment would live on for future generations.

A third tease of our 21 most patriotic movies shows how patriotism can arrive when it is most needed.

Watch Miracle online and you’ll see a country that is downright depressed. We were economically stagnant. Our enemy, the Russians, seemed to be making advances across the globe in the spread of communism.

But, on the ice, a group of young men would rise up and give this country hope once again. And we felt proud to be Americans for the first time in quite a while.

Intrigued? Sit back and prepare to don the red, white and blue as you click through our 21 most patriotic movies that will surely get you in the mood to set off a firework or two this July 4th!

Independence Day

For a list that honors the Fourth of July, we had to put Independence Day on it! But, seriously, this is one majorly patriotic film. And we love the Bill Pullman speech before the big attack: This. Is. Our. Independence. Day! Amen!

Guardians of the Galaxy Character Posters: Groot, Gamora & Rocket Raccoon!

Marvel Studios has released three new character posters for Guardians of the Galaxy. And coming off that hot Guardians of the Galaxy UK trailer, you know anticipation could not be higher for the August 1 release.

The three characters who get the spotlight with fresh character one-sheets are Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, the Vin Diesel-voiced Groot and the Bradley Cooper-voiced Rocket Raccoon (who just may be our favorite Guardian).

Chris Pratt also stars as Star Lord and Dave Bautista is Drax.

This is the first “new” group of superheroes that Marvel has introduced to the world in some time. And we have to say, they have done a masterful job of rolling out the interstellar heroes. At first, audience reaction was like that of Djimon Hounsou in the trailer, “Who?!”

Now, I think it’s safe to say that the world knows the Guardians of the Galaxy and it has easily become one of the must-see summer movies!

Rocket Raccoon Gets the Spotlight

Rocket Raccoon’s character poster debuts! Bradley Cooper voices the crazy ‘coon.
