Cinderella Charms Audiences: Weekend Box Office Report

It wasn’t just Prince Charming that fell in love with Cinderella, audiences turned out in droves to see Disney’s live action version of their animated classic. The Kenneth Branagh-directed film starring Lily James as the titular iconic character took in a magical $70 million!

You would think that would be record setting, and although an absolutely incredible debut, the Cinderella opening weekend is the fifth highest in history. It sits behind The Hunger Games, Alice in Wonderland, Oz the Great and Powerful and 300.

Now there’s one statistic we’d like to see that we will probably never know. How many of those who went to see Cinderella were there to see the next chapter in the Frozen phenomenon, the short film Frozen Fever that played before Cinderella? Makes you wonder, no?

Second place belonged to the Liam Neeson action flick Run All Night. Although $11.2 million is pretty solid for a March debut (last week’s champ, Chappie, only made $13 million and won the box office), it is pretty low for a Neeson film. However, he has had four action flicks in the last 12 months… so maybe his desire to only do action movies for two more years is not a bad move.

Third place belonged to the movie that won’t quit (and one that will easily be on our best of 2015 list when all is said and done), Kingsman: The Secret Service. The Colin Firth-starring film from Matthew Vaughn earned $6.2 million to bring its total to $107.3 million.

Will Smith’s latest continued its run as Focus came in fourth and added another $5.81 million to take its total to $44 million.

Closing out the top five was Chappie and its $5.8 million. In two weeks, Chappie has taken in $23.3 million.

Box Office Top 10:

1. Cinderella, $70 million
2. Run All Night, $11.2 million
3. Kingsman: The Secret Service, $6.2 million
4. Focus, $5.81 million
5. Chappie, $5.8 million
6. Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, $5.7 million
7. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, $4.1 million
8. McFarland, USA, $3.7 million
9. American Sniper, $2.9 million
10. The DUFF, $2.9 million

Pixels Teaser Trailer: Classic Video Games Invade Earth!

Everyone keeps saying how they want originality out of the big movie studios and, in fact, it was one of our 7 ways to fix Hollywood. We think the idea of Pixels more than fits that mold.

The Sony release premiered a teaser for its first trailer which will debut on Tuesday, and although this first glance doesn’t tell us much, it does show enough to have us more than enticed.

Pixels is the story of how aliens decide to invade earth, taking the form of classic ’80s video games. That idea, apparently, came out of signals from earth that took years to reach them, and it made it seem that video game archetypes were our plans to attack them!

So, they struck first — using those very video game characters against us.

If you think about it, enormous Donkey Kong characters, Pac-Man and Centipede attacking our major cities would be terrifying. We’re sure we’ll see more of those invaders in the trailer, but for now, it looks like we get a tease of Mario’s feet and Pac-Man’s shadow as people run maniacally in the streets of NYC.

How do we respond?

The president (Kevin James) enlists the help of the best video gamers from back in the day to orchestrate our response – and they’re played by Peter Dinklage, Adam Sandler and Josh Gad.

Pixels, which also stars Michelle Monaghan and Brian Cox, hits theaters July 24.

Jurassic World: Meet Chris Pratt’s Raptor Squad!

Remember that unforgettable moment in the most recent Jurassic World trailer that had Chris Pratt almost serving as a “Raptor Whisperer?”

We were thrilled on two levels with that scene.

First, Raptor Whisperer… I mean, come on? Having those killer beasts under control and able to follow orders is supremely awesome.

Given that we know that scientist Bryce Dallas Howard and her team have created a monstrous new dinosaur that is about to wreak some serious havoc on the uber-popular park that sees millions of visitors a year, those Raptors will come in handy going after that killer beast.

Secondly, the Raptors are back! That alone is enough to have us thrilled.

The studio recently released a fantastic set of photos that introduced us to the dinosaurs of Jurassic World, but our favorite vicious creatures were noticeably absent.

Thank goodness Universal has released a new still featuring several of Pratt’s Raptor Squad, as we have decided to call them.

Watch Jurassic Park online to see how this entire wild world got started and get ready for Jurassic World to hit theaters June 12.

Furious 7 International Trailer: One Last Ride!

Although Vin Diesel may say “one last ride” in the newly released international trailer for Furious 7, we all know that literally will not be the case! Our favorite Fast and Furious characters may hope that this ends their journey of fast cars and hold-your-breath action, but we all know that Universal has plans for at least three more movies

But, in this movie, they are trying to put an end to someone (Jason Statham) who is coming after the Fast family and trying to kill them off for killing off his brother (Luke Evans) in Fast and Furious 6.

As the film pulled the surprise premiere at SXSW last night, this international trailer arrives and our anticipation level, we thought, could not get any higher for the film that lands April 3.

Sadly, it will serve as the last film of Paul Walker, and he is joined in the cast of returning favorites by Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez and Lucas Black. Joining them is Statham, Kurt Russell (so psyched to see him get in on the action) and, in a brief cameo, Iggy Azalea.

Watch Fast and Furious 6 online and get your engines revving for the next chapter due next month.

Avengers Age of Ultron: Ultron Character Poster Scares Us!

Avengers: Age of Ultron has finally released the character poster for the big guy himself, Ultron! James Spader voiced the Avengers villain and did the motion capture thing to effectively capture his nastiest villain yet… and that’s saying something.

Ultron started out so peacefully. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) built the AI robot as part of an effort to construct a massive robot peacekeeping force.

Well, that kind of backfired and now the guy is in charge of a robotic army that is threatening the planet with human extinction.

Downey is not alone in the returning Avengers. Also back is Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye (recently confirmed to also be back for Captain America: Civil War), Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk.

Joining the team (well, eventually) is Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver.

Watch The Avengers online and get yourself pumped for the arrival of Avengers: Age of Ultron in theaters May 1.
